Welsh Government St David’s Day Fund brings brand-new city-centre festival to Wrexham

A brand-new two-day festival celebrating Welsh culture is coming to Wrexham city centre this St David’s Day weekend, with Gŵyl Dewi Wrecsam 2026 – St David’s Weekend Festival taking place on Saturday 28 February and Sunday 1 March 2026.
Across the weekend, visitors can enjoy a curated artisan market featuring Welsh makers and food & drink producers from Wrexham, North Wales and across the country, alongside a dedicated food-festival zone hosting free bilingual workshops on traditional Welsh dishes and modern takes, plus tastings and street-food favourites.
Family programming will run throughout, with playful St David’s Day-themed activities designed to celebrate Wrecsam’s/Wrexham’s identity and bring communities together.
What’s on: Saturday 28 February (10am–4pm)
Queens Square, Queens Street & Chapter Court
Saturday will feature a full day of festival activity including:
- Outdoor artisan market packed with businesses and local producers
- Family entertainment and children’s activities, including balloon modelling, Children’s Rides and face painting
- Welsh-language fun, including Welsh-medium Punch and Judy and Welsh storytelling
- Street food and artisan bakers
- Bilingual Welsh food workshops inside Chapter Court (suitable for adults and children)
- Live music on Queens Square, including Wrexham Concert Band a Welsh wind band with 30+ musicians, bilingual performances from Megan Lee, Andy Hickie and Anglesey singer-songwriter Daf Jones along with a finale from the popular Welsh covers band Six Ton Dog
- Welsh-inspired dance performances from local dance school Delta Academy of Dance & Performing Arts
- Visitors will also have the chance to enter a free prize draw to win a large Welsh produce hamper, with entry forms available in participating Chapter Court shops and selected Artisan Market traders. Entries can be posted into the collection box at The Wrexham Hamper Company.
- Random Act of Welshness Project – Free goodie bags, Welsh produce, Samples, Activity Packs – 250 to be given away over the weekend.

Chapter Court
On St David’s Day, the celebration continues indoors with:
- Indoor artisan market inside Chapter Court Event Space (Queens Sq, LL11 1AT)
- More bilingual food workshops inside Chapter Court Shopping (Queens St, LL11 1AP)
- Additional children’s activities
Delivered by Fair Event Management Ltd, the multi-venue festival will bring together food, music, language, crafts and family activities to create what organisers hope will be a St David’s Day celebration to remember — all activities are free to attend.
The festival is being delivered through the Welsh Government’s pilot St David’s Day Fund, which has enabled the event team to subsidise all Welsh-based businesses who wish to apply to trade or take part.
