Welcome to Year 6.
We intend to make sure your last year of primary school is fun whilst learning lots of news skills to take away with you!
During this term we will be attending Water world for swimming sessions every Friday morning and have boxing sessions with Nigel (Welsh boxing) on a Tuesday afternoon.
Please provide your child with a healthy snack such as a fruit or veg snack or cereal bar and water bottle each day and that dinners are booked using Parent Pay.
Our topic this term is ‘Cynefin’ we are focusing on Welsh warriors , we will be learning all about The Celts and Boudicca, Owain Glyndwr, Welsh soldiers during WW1 and WW2 and Welsh heroic princesses.
In Numeracy we will be looking at place value, ordering and rounding numbers, multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. We will also be collecting data, creating line graphs and using these skills during our topic lesson. Each week we will also be completing daily reasoning problems and starters and weekly speed test time tables.
Children will also bring home weekly spellings to learn. We will be testing children each Tuesday. Please encourage your child to practise these words at home.
Reading is a big focus in our class, children have their individual reading books (home), desk books and group reading books. Please encourage your child to read at home and record and sign in their yellow reading records.
We communicate to parents vias the seesaw app, where you can message me any queries etc as well as enjoying seeing your child’s work.
We will also be learning Welsh and French using different apps and activities. We will learn more about our mental wellbeing and relationships using the myhappyminds and ten ten schemes.
We have an open door policy and I’m always happy to answer questions at the door, however due to the fact I need to be with the pupils if there is ever an issue that you feel needs longer to discuss then please drop a message on seesaw and we can arrange a convenient time at the soonest opportunity.
