Dosbarth Pump a Chwech/ Class Five and Six

Welcome to Year 5/6.

We intend to make sure your last year of primary school is fun whilst learning lots of news skills to take away with you!

We have a class pet, a hamster called Pip, that pupils help to care for every day.

During this term we will be attending Queensway gymnastics each Friday afternoon and ‘Memories’ gardening group each month at the Happy Hedgehog cafe.

Please ensure your child has a healthy snack and water bottle each day and that dinners are booked using Parent Pay.

Our topic this term is ‘Common good’ , we will be learning all about climate change in the world and how we can help. We are very lucky this term to have the opportunity to work alongside Chester zoo to complete some workshops linked to the production of palm oil.  We will then be visiting the zoo as our class trip.

In Numeracy we will be looking at multiples, factors and prime numbers. Completing tasks linked to probability, mean mode and range, area and perimeters. Each week we will also be completing daily reasoning problems and starters and weekly speed test time tables.

Children will also bring home weekly spellings to learn. We will be testing children each Friday. Please encourage your child to practise these words at home.

Reading is a big focus in our class, children have their individual reading books (home), desk books and group reading books. Please encourage your child to read at home and record and sign in their yellow reading records.

We communicate to parents vias the seesaw app, where you can message me any queries etc as well as enjoying seeing your child’s work.

We will also be learning Welsh and French using different apps and activities. We will learn more about our mental wellbeing and relationships using the myhappyminds and ten ten schemes.

We have an open door policy and I’m always happy to answer questions at the door, however due to the fact I need to be with the pupils if there is ever an issue that you feel needs longer to discuss then please drop a message on seesaw and we can arrange a convenient time at the soonest opportunity.

Myself and Miss Forward are very happy to be teaching your child this year and are excited at what the year ahead will hold for us all.

Autumn

We enjoyed taking part in the Adobe mental health workshop as part of our ‘Hello Yellow Day’ activities. The children worked with pupils from Year 3/4 and 4/5 to share their skills to create a mental health poster.

We worked on Adobe to recreate propaganda posters linked to WW2.

Our class book this term is based on a true story set during WW2. We will be completing lots of comprehension and literacy tasks linked to this book during the first term.
