Welcome to year 2! Croeso i Ddosbarth Santes Dwynwen!
This term our topic is “Weather and Antarctica” which will be led by the children and where they would like th topic to take them. We will be comparing weather in different countries. We will be reasearching the different animals and their habitats. We will also be looking at change in climate and the impact that this will have on the animals.
In REVE we will be focussing on the topic of ‘From Galilee to Jerusalem’ where we will be looking at the Journey of the Magi and some of the miracles.
Year 2/3 will be using the chromebooks this term and developing their awareness of online safety. The children will be using animation apps and using some simple coding programs. They will also use apps to help them with their learning.
In Language, literacy and communication we will be reading and writing our own weather reports and recording them as weather presenters. We will be using our role play area as a weather station. We will be revisiting some Welsh and French phrases. The children will use everyday Welsh in their activities and during the school day. We will also be learning how to talk about the weather in the present and past tenseas well as discussing their likes and dislikes in Welsh.
In mathematics and numeracy we will be focusing on addition and subtraction, ordering numbers, finding differences between temperatures and using negative numbers. and using graphs with the data we have collected about the weather.
PE this term will be on a Wednesday afternoon and a Friday afternoon where we will be doing dance and ball skills. We will be working with Erlas walled garden to do some gardening activities. The Happy Hedgehog Cafe in Caia Park are holding a singing session once a month for people and their families with dementia, which we will be joining in with.
Seesaw will be used to communicate important dates and information so please sign up using the code that has been sent home. Reading books will be sent home on a Friday to be returned on Monday. Please read with your child for a few minutes each evening, as it really helps them develop confidence and fluency.
