Attendance letters

Good morning,
It’s good to see the children back to school despite the slippery conditions under foot.
I was in touch not so long ago to explain that we had adopted the local authority Attendance Policy which is used across all Wrexham schools.
I informed all parents and guardians that letters would be sent home once a child started missing 10 sessions of school (5 full days) even if there are genuine reasons for not being in school. The process will then continue if absence doesn’t improve with Letter 2, Letter 3, meetings with myself or Mrs Stephens and also further down the line meetings with the Education Social worker. If poor attendance for specific pupils continues, school will be entitled to provide information to the authority for fixed penalty notices (fines).
Your child’s education is important to us here at St Anne’s and we aim to provide the best opportunities and experiences for our children. When they miss school as much as some of our children do they miss out on vital teaching and learning which prevents them from reaching their full potential.
Holidays will continue to be authorised up to 10 days if a child’s attendance is above 95%, however this will not prevent the start of the attendance policy being addressed and families will still receive letters.
I appreciate that children get poorly however it is important that we are notified of absence as soon as possible.
Please find our Attendance policy on our website if you want further information.
Thank you
Ms Priest-Jones
